“Oh hey! Hibki! Wow, fancy seeing you here! You doing alright? That’s great! Let’s walk and talk.”
Makoto holds the girl by the shoulders, forcing her in the opposite direction as gently as she can manage. There’s nothing good where she came from, she’s certain; while she hasn’t seen anything, her squirrel senses are keen enough to know when something’s wrong.
“You doing alright? Cut any wires? Get in any fights? I was just trying to make sure my friends were okay. Crazy stuff going on, right?” she says, unable to mask the rising panic in her voice. “That island showing up outta nowhere! Getting all my power back is kind of a cool bonus but...”
She stops for a moment, eyes wide, ears twitching.
“Hm. Uhmm... Here, this way,” she says, guiding them both around a corner. She glances over her shoulder for just a moment before she resumes talking, more quietly this time. “You staying safe? I dunno what kind of stuff you go up against in your world, but with the kind of power you’re packing it can’t be- oh, shit.”
Makoto pulls Hibiki to the ground just as something slices through the air at torso-level. It impacts the wall, and then unfolds itself, staring at the two girls. A machine in the shape of a woman, glad in deep magenta, and with a set of wicked looking claws stares down at them with empty, azure eyes.
From the hole in the opposite wall comes a man’s voice, one deep and smooth, with an immeasurable level of confidence dripping from every word.
“How curious. Even in a world such as this, I find familiar faces. I wonder what the cause of this phenomena could be...”
The man waves his hand, and the automaton lurches forward again. Without another warning, Makoto scoops Hibiki up onto her feet and begins to run.
“No time to explain!” shouts Makoto, pushing Hibiki along. “Just keep runnin’! That dude’s bad news!”
