Sherlock and John kissing on the stairs... with John standing on the higher step.

The height of the riser only gives John an edge of a couple of inches, not a great gain, but enough to draw a perplexed wrinkle in Sherlock’s brow and force a satisfying upwards tilt to his chin as John peers down at him.

What makes it special?

A fic like this is the perfect closure for today's recs. In a sense, it's a bit like the man it centers on, short but charming, with a sense of humor that's on the edge of wryness and unexpected cunning. Underestimate at your own risk.

The distinctive style and wealth of metaphors made me shake my head a few times, but fondly rather than to roll my eyes. It's a lovely and refreshing counterpoint to Sherlock's deductions and dismantling so familiar from other works. This is a sensual, gently passionate scene, not porny but very erotic, and with the perfect ending.
