“He’s gone.”

It was Perceptor who had to call it, had to finalize the time. 

It was Perceptor who had been commed, in the middle of the night. Fort Max is unresponsive. There’s depressions in his armor, his spark is giving up and we don’t understand why-

But deep down, Perceptor knew. He knew what it was like, the shrinking feeling, the closing shadows, all of it.

He rests a hand on Fort Max’s plating, his optic dim and his reticule flickering.

“I am glad you found rest.”, he says quietly, “And I am sorry I was not there for you.”

He hopes, somewhere in his spark, that Fort Max will be able to sleep wherever he goes after this life-

Because Perceptor will not.
