I've succumbed to my wanderlust.

I've been at college at the University of Minnesota for roughly three weeks now (since I moved in) and it's basically been nonstop studying, classes, events, and interactions since then. Today was Saturday and it was the first nice day there'd been in about a week. My day started normal. I did my laundry and physics homework at the same time. I had every intention of getting my lunch to go and eating while doing more studying. Then someone asked me what my weekend plans were. I didn't have any besides studying. Then when I went to go get my lunch the sun felt so nice. So I ate lunch outside. I tried to go back inside then and study, but my room seemed so dark and stagnant.

So I said whatever. I'm going biking. I'm going to explore West Bank*, I'm going to bike across that other pedestrian/bicyclist bridge I found and see where it takes me! So that's what I did and what follows is my "adventure" after checking out West Bank.

There's a bridge that I found while trying to find one of my classes that crosses the river and then goes off into Minneapolis somewhere. Turns out it leads to a small "park" completely overrun by tall grasses and wildflowers. The smell of them was as thick as perfume in the air.

Beyond that I could follow the road (Minneapolis is very bike friendly so this was a smallish/pedestrian/motorized scooter only road) until it connected with a main road. Barely a couple hundred feet after that though I was able to get on a different bike path.

Now while I was on the bridge I had seen that the area I where knew the Guthrie Theater was located was like, right there. I have a special place in my heart for the Guthrie theater as it helped foster in me a real love of theater. So that was my goal, even though I had no idea how close it actually was and I didn't really know where I was going.

So, not too long after after turning on to that second bike path I found myself right next to Gold Medal Park. (On the opposite side that you see in the picture. I took this later.)

Now this absolutely made my day, because I have seen this park so many times during trips to the Guthrie (it's located right next to the Guthrie) and other times, and I wanted to visit it so badly. It was one of the few actual places that was on my wanderlust driven bucket list.**

It was actually thrilling to be able to finally walk around the park with no obligations or time constraints the way I'd wanted to for years. I even took some random pictures of stuff (as seen above) to document the event.

This holds power lines (I think) that stretch across the river. There's a matching one one the other side as you can see in the picture below.

Another view: which allowed me to see that I was only a few blocks from the US Bank Stadium, which was interesting because I'd gotten to know that area of Minneapolis fairly well over the summer when I attended the LCMS National Youth Gathering there so I now knew my way around a decent chunk of Minneapolis.

A close encounter with Minneapolis' urban wildlife: turkeys. Yes. There are wild turkeys that live in the middle of Minneapolis. I see them outside my dorm all the time.

Wanderlust still not satisfied I actually went back out to West Bank campus and bank later and was treated to a beautiful view of the sun setting behind the city.

* The University of Minnesota has three campuses: East Bank (the main campus on the east bank of the Mississippi), West Bank (on the other side of the river, a bridge connects them), and Saint Paul.

**One of the reasons I came to the University of Minnesota actually was wanderlust. I wanted to get out of my hometown. I wanted to see things, to explore, to have new experiences. And the Twin Cities/the U of M seemed like a great place to do that.
