Free Guy is such a perfect example of coming out of Plato's cave... I love this film so much
needed practice drawing people other than round faced asians so have some of my favorite white guys from video games
Free Guy Background Art
I’m on my fourth rewatch of Free Guy and I just noticed that in the scene in Buddy’s apartment one of the paintings on the wall behind him is of the front of an apartment building. It’s literally of the windows and balconies. It looks like the outside of Guy’s building that we see at the start of the movie which is probably what all of the apartment buildings in Free City look like because they’re carbon copies and are occupied by NPC’s. Towards the end of the movie when Guy shows Millie the reflection in the blinds at his apartment you can see a painting on the wall behind him of the glass windows of an apartment building too.
I think this is such a cool example of the thought that went into this movie and how originally the NPC’s worlds are so small and mundane and pre-programmed that even the decor is of other mundane things they see all the time. But as we see with Guy as he begins to learn, grow, evolve, and change his world expands too. His decor improves. He gets a bigger fish tank for Goldie. He gets more kitchen utensils and dishware. As Guy evolves so does his apartment and his attire. Whereas with Buddy his is still the same because he’s still stuck in the same old routine. He’s too scared to step out of his comfort zone. Guy is more comfortable because he’s always longed for more because that’s the way Keys programmed him. We need more smart movies like this. I can’t wait for the sequel!
