101 Things You Should Know About The UK Tory Government
“This government will have integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level. Trust is earned. And I will earn yours.” (Rishi Sunak on entering office)
Given both past and recent revelations regarding Tory honesty, openness and decency that is obviously a work still in progress. The latest scandal concerns former Tory minister Guy Opperman.
Opperman was a minister at the Department of Work and Pension and had been under investigation for "a £5000 donation from a secretive organisation." (Mirror: 18/02/23)
Opperman has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Government Internal Audit Agency. What then is all the fuss about?
The problem is, the Department of Work and Pensions, who received the report exonerating Opperman of breaking the ministerial code, has refused both to publish the reports findings or explain the reasoning behind the decision.
The £5000 was paid to Opperman by the London and Northern Dinning Club last October and although MP’s are required to name individual donors ,
"…a loophole exists to allow 'dining clubs to give cash without having to declare their membership. Millions of pounds worth of ‘dark money’ is given through such anonymous organisations." (Mirror: 18/02/23)
So much for trust, transparency, and accountability.
