We probably have a bunch of guides of this around, but since I wanted to do one for a friend of mine, I will be sharing here too! She's a new player, so the struggle is real. I see a lot of new players having problems with it and I've been there, so I want to help somehow!
This is how I do it. Depending on how lucky I am with the timing, I can finish it 16 to 18 times in 30 minutes. There are people who do other crazy stuff and even finish it 19 times! But I only take the necessary risks.
By the way, by lack of vocabulary I will call the red/white xmas candies by candy platforms and candy tubes :D Sorry!
Sorry for everyone who appeared here unintentionally!
HEAVY POST BELOW / GIFS!
FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT It is hard for most of players at first. I know it is frustrating, but keep trying!
1) TURN ON ACTION CAMERA
By turning action camera on, you have one less thing to worry about as your screen will move with mouse movement instead of holding right button all the time. Concentration in what you're doing is everything you need!
Press F11 > Control Options > Camera > Toggle Action Camera (I use num-pad 9 to turn it on and off, but pick whatever button you'd like)
2) Don't stand in the snowflakes for too long, otherwise they will break and you will fall. As soon as I jump on them, I run a little bit forward and jump again. This first part is basically just watching your step carefully.
• Do not wait anywhere! You are losing health for the cold!
3) This is where people fall the most at first, it seems. The candy tube will also break if you stand on it, so you gotta be quick! I jump on the middle of the first one, then more to the edge of the second one and then I jump to the smallest snowflake (1) straight to (3). Some people jump to the bigger one (2) after and then go to (3), but I find it more risky. Gif below!
• Do not jump “too much” from the snowflake to the first tube, otherwise you will fall between the tubes. It is more of a careful/short jump.
4) This part (after the tube/candy bridge thingy of item 3) is basically knowing the direction to take. There's no trick here, just jump, jump, jump. Jump until you know how the stuff is aligned. This part a bit long to gif, watch the video if you have any doubt <3 [Starts at 00:20]
5) Another jump, jump, jump part, but a lot less problematic:
6) At the gift bridge, DO NOT jump if someone else jumped ahead of you and they are about the middle of it, because the gifts will pop up and disappear. Wait until it appears again. It will only be activated to self destruction after someone jumps on it again.
The best path to take here in my opinion is the middle one as the follow image:
REMEMBER the bridge is not a straight line! It is like a staircase and there's empty space between the gifts and you can fall in these holes if you mistep! Jump from a present to the next! The space between then gets bigger by the end.
NEXT PART, DODGE!!!
7) There are a bunch of ways to do this part, so I will give some tips:
• ALWAYS watch out for aoes. Most of them will be able to kill you, but you also can dodge all of them if you need to! Though I highly recommend not to try it until you get accostumed to the JP.
• If the giant snowball is here [image below], wait for another to pass in the candy platform (2) or the candy tube (1) before running. You won't runout of time, relax. JUST WAIT for another to pass by you.
• If the giant snowball is around here [image below], you can run to the next candy platform.
• The only part of the snowballs that hurt and push is the front, you can simply jump behind of it as soon as it passed by you without fear! UNLESS there’s an AoE behind, then wait for it or dodge quickly!
---
• Ok, I never try anything funny here. I just wait like a good salad. I've seen people do crazy things here. Some suceed, others don't, and I honestly rather not risk everything so... After the giant snowball goes away, I run to the next candy platform.
• Here I have two ways of doing it. Depending on my timing, I will wait on the little candy platform (1) or run quickly by it, dodge before the giant snowball can hit me and wait on the another little candy platform (2). I like the (2) more than the (1), but if my jump from the bigger candy platform [I am standing on in the first image below] wasn’t right after the snowball passed (like in the video), I will wait in the (1).
•• Doing the (1):
There’s an AoE warning in the middle of the gif! Pay attention.
•• Doing the (2):
The invisible AoE [a quick snowball that can hit you and ruin everything] mentioned in the gif below happens right before the last part of the JP, before jumping to the floating gift. You’ll usually only hear the sound of it hitting the snow and some dust in the air. Its timing is the same as the one AoE below it (from the gif above), so if you see it falling, the other “invisible” one will too.
• After it, you just have to watch your step and jump quickly before you runout of HP:
Hello! Someone asked me this and I'm republishing it in another post so it could be rebloggable as requested by looking-over-cliffs. :)
Play with the right mind. Do not play the game from how you've played other MMOs, coz you might be suprised. Just slowly learn things.
Before you start anything, look at the interface, read the tool-tip, the functions/controls of the keys.
Talk to every NPC if possible. They have interesting facts to say about the zone, or clues about events. Look at each item from Karma vendors. If NPCs have nothing to say, they'll just simply greet you.
Harvest everything you see. The first vendor on your map after the starting instance sells salvaging & gathering tools. Don't forget his location and get those tools from him.
At early levels, salvage whites for crafting mats and sell blues or greens to NPC or at TP since salvaging them nets you the same amount of mats from whites.
Deposit all collectibles in your bank (inventory > deposit all collectibles at the top right cog)
Do not miss dynamic events (DE). If you see a new event nearby, go ahead and join in. Help someone or a group. I made friends thru this too :D
You will lose health if you don't move, so use dodge. You will learn how to use it at the right time pretty soon.
Don't do CRAFTING yet until you're lvl 50+ (lvl 50 content becomes a bit harder with less heart quests, so it's best to do crafting for exp). If you want to try it, best start is Cooking (for FOOD buffs and it's easy). Exp you get from maxing it gives you 10 levels (the same % for each lvl). If you started crafting at lvl 1, you'll end up being level 11. It's better to craft when you're lvl 70, and end up at 80 :)
PLAY WITH FRIENDS. If you don't have friends yet, join a guild. You can join multiple guilds - a max of 4 (but can represent 1 at a time). It's best to play/level with a group to complete DEs you can't complete alone. Don't worry about the exp & loot. Everyone gets the rewards.
Orange map symbols are dynamic events. Green ones are for the personal storyline. White skull are fallen/dead NPCs you can revive, while blue skulls are fallen/dead players.
If there's a red bar at the bottom of a skill icon, it means you're out of range. Move closer and when it disappears, it means you're in range.
WvW gives you great exp, so do it too, while at the same time doing zone completion. You can't play this when you're in overflow or guesting in another server.
Offload your unnecessary stuff thru AH. You can buy/sell anything from anywhere, and collect money/goods in town.
Asura portals (violet mark on the map) can get you to other starting zones. There's one in your race's main city.
Killing anything you see can give you an achievement, even killing the innocent ones. White counts for dailies too. Yellow and green will give you 200+ exp since the system rewards you for killing things that have been alive for a long time (and this is better than random events).
Do dungeons once you're at the right level, and whenever you do it, feel free to tell your party members that it's your first time and ask for their instructions. Dungeons are quite challenging in this game, so be attentive to what they instruct.
Personal story is not that great for exp, but it's fun and worth doing. I started doing mine when I reached 80 though.
Rez everyone (even ranger pets). It gives you exp too and an achievement. In events, always revive a downed player if you can. It's quicker than reviving a dead player.
Check out "farms" from each zone. There are 8-10 plant nodes to gather there (awesome exp).
Do your DAILIES.
Cooking buffs (food) give you bonus exp and extra stats/boosts.
Evade red circles on the ground, they're deadly. Blue circles are heals/buffs. White does nothing.
To respec, you don't have to buy the book again. Just simply talk to your trainer and ask a respec.
Map completion rewards you with exp and shiny stuff (or crafting mats).
If you want to take a break from leveling, you can play some mini-games or do jumping puzzles.
Do what makes you happy, you'll get rewarded for it: PvE, crafting, gathering, WvW, events (except for sPvP, it doesn't give you exp)
DO NOT RUSH. Just explore and enjoy the game ;)
Some Keyboard Controls/Shortcuts Tips:
To quickly take a screenshot without the UI, just press Shift + PrintScreen (saves you time from pressing Ctrl + Shift + H which removes the UI)
Shift + Left Clicking an item, waypoint or skill will link them on chat. However, Alt + Left Clicking will automatically send it to chat without having to hit Enter.
You can emote at a target by putting @ after the emote. E.g. /cheers @
Set a ping on the map by Shift + Left Clicking on the location or mini-map, just in case you need help from people around. Helpful when you're fighting a boss alone, and you have no time to chat.
To split stacked items, just Alt + Left Click the stacked items and drag to an open slot in your bag.
Autoattacking skill - just Ctrl + Right Click the skill and it becomes autoattack
To target something (first boss to kill or someone), just Ctrl + T to the target. It will tell your party members to just Press T to assist you.
If you want to add a dye in your favorites, simply Right Click on the dye color.
You can draw to the map to guide your party members by Holding Shift + Left Clicking the map (or mini-map). Personal markers are thru Alt + Left Clicking the map.
Don't use double tapping for Dodge. Bind it to some key :)
Right Click to any armor to be able to preview it or check how it looks on your toon. You can also do this when you want to buy armor from NPC vendors. It doesn't work on the TP yet though.
You can Auto-Run. Just bind it to a key. I use R. :)
There are many tips I can share but these are the basic ones. You can find lotsa guides and tips for crafting, salvaging, emotes, dungeons, making money, evading, etc online. Good luck! ;)
Hi! I just wanted to know how long you've been playing GW2, and if you had any tips/advice for someone new to Tyria!

Play games has a high level is hard for every players. But everyone wants to get the high level. There, you will get the information about effective level in GW2.
GW2 has a scaling system in place that automatically scale high level players to the level appropriate for that area. This is a method to prevent high level players from slaughtering low level areas and also a way for high level players to participate in low level event they might have missed and still get rewarded.
If you see your health decrease for some reason while roaming around the map, don’t panic! Effective level is in place. You can check what level you have scaled to by opening your character’s window (pressing H) and the effective level should be displayed in green text.
When the game has this system, you do not need worry about the low level to lead to the failure. Just rest assured about it.
