Big Trash Pickup
Okay, after going through the (what turned out to be not so painful) process of arranging for large trash pickup online. I figured it might helpful to make a post for anyone who may need to do this in the future.
For the purpose of this post, I’m using Gwangjin-gu that’s where I live, but I’m sure the same will apply to the other districts as well.
First step, go to your district’s homepage. (Note: you will have to use Internet Explorer for this. Other browsers won’t work. Sorry to Mac users!) For those of you in Gwangjin-gu, its www.gwangjin.go.kr.
From there, click on the “종합민원” tab and then click “대형폐기믈기배츨,” which basically means “big trash.”
It will then take you to a new page where you will need to click on the picture in the center, which will take you to the next page where you will click on the picture of the computer screen.
That will finally take you to the page where you need to fill in all your information. The first section (신청인 정보) is for your name and phone number. The second section (폐기물 배출 장소) is for the address where they will need to pick up the trash. The page uses the new versions of addresses (gu, street name, building number), not the old one (gu, dong, building number). The last (폐기물 배출 내역) is to chose what item it is you would like them to pick up.
To put in what it is you need picked up, click the button in the last section and a window will pop up with the options and prices. All you need to do is click the box next to whatever it is you need picked up. (If needed, it’s really easy to use a translator app to figure out what it is in Korean.) After that, you just need to put in the date and time for pickup at the bottom of the page and click 신청하기.
I really should have screencapped this as I did it, so I could post pictures of the payment process, but I forgot so from here I’ll just have to describe it as best as I can.
The next page will be the payment option page. The first option (the one I used) is for a check/credit card. This process is pretty much the same as any other Korean website. You chose which card you are using from the options and then go through the ISP process (you will need to download and set up the app on your phone in advance). Once it’s done you will be emailed a receipt. I believe you just print that off and then tape it to the items you leave out to be picked up and you are good. It’s up to you to get the items outside in front of your building before the pickup time.
(Note: I wasn’t taken to any other page after that whole process on the website, so I’m just assuming all I have to do is print off the receipt I was emailed. Something may have gone wrong, but the pickup time, place and items did go through on the website as did the payment, so I’m crossing my fingers that it all works.)
The other option is to input your resident ID number, but I’m not sure how that works since I didn’t choose it. Anyone else who has feel free to chip in.
And I believe that is it. ^^ Usually I prefer to go into the community center to take care of this just to make sure I don’t screw anything up, but since I work 9-6, it makes it hard to visit government offices while they are open. So this is a fairly quick and easy alternative.

Same as previously uploaded iPhone shot, but cropped and re-processed with Mextures. I think it looks better this way.
