I had the pleasure of speaking with Sarah McDermott’s Letterpress 2 class at the Corcoran School of Art. We looked at slides of my work and talked about all the wild things you can do with a Vandercook, and with photopolymer, and with a brayer and ink. Of course, the conversation also touched on prison abolition, science fiction, and brand manuals. It was so fun to share my books with these talented students, to see the work they’re making, and hear their ideas. Always feels so good to be in a room of people who are excited about ornaments, process color separations, visual translations, invented languages, makeup, disseminating screeds, and finding every opportunity to use wood type.
(Amusing postscript: the first art show I was ever a part of - as an exhibitor and a co-curator - was deaDCity’s show “NEVERMIND THE CORCORAN.”)
