She was so very relieved when George was the one to open the door --- things with Penny were currently still awkward at best, and as much love as she would never be able to lose for the other girl, seeing her was a little more nerve wracking than anything. She’d showed up, out of the blue, to hang out with her best friend, hoping he had nothing else to do. School was kicking her ass this time around, she felt like she was drowning in homework and she still had two essays due (had it always been this hard?) but she’d put them aside in hopes George would be free.
Of course, seeing him brought a sense of guilt on too. She felt like she should tell him, she would want to know if roles were reversed, but how do you inform your best friend they’ve already kicked the bucket and everyone they knew was just hoping it didn’t happen again? The words wouldn’t come out even if she tried, and maybe he was better off just not knowing. This was a lot to take in for anyone, much less someone that had actually died years ago. “You’re spending the day with me,” Fawna informed the boy before he could say a word, “and frankly, I don’t care if you already have plans, because they can’t be better than me, so I’m sitting right here and pouting on this doorstep until you cancel them.”
