Aftershock; NOLA status update.
On March 4th, from midnight to 3 a.m., shambling hordes rose from their graves and traipsed their way through the city of New Orleans. The epitome of the classic zombies, they showed very little in the way of cognitive thought, but rather shuffled and tore their way through the streets with no particular rhyme or reason. Several hundred injuries were reported, some due to the zombies, though most was just the sheer panic of a drunken mob trying to escape from the creatures. Just over a dozen actual deaths were reported. A special task force has been created, drawing people from both the FBI agents that have set up in NOLA and the local PD to attempt to investigate the truth behind the 'phenomena'.
Local news reports are alluding to a potential chemical leak / effects of local weather phenomena to explain the apparent re-animation, but many of the locals and anyone with a suspicious or supernatural mindset sees through the cover story with ease. Many religious figures are in something of an uproar, and tension is rising between some of the more fanatical Christian and Catholic residents and those of the 'native' religions, such as voodoo and witchcraft. There has been speculation amongst some, as well, as to whether the rise of the walking dead is tied into, or is perhaps a repercussion of all of those that have come back to life in the last months all across the world -- and whether they should be worried about other such incidents in coming days.
To say that the city is in a state of unrest is something of an understatement, between the coined 'Home Run' murders that are rapidly approaching the double digits, the events of the Mardi Gras Massacre, and the stressors between factions in the government, religious aspects, and the populace at large. In short, New Orleans is rapidly coming to resemble something of a powder keg, waiting for one last spark to set it off.
