It may sound funny, but Pretty In Pink changed my life. It really did. I was on the cusp of my 8th grade year when I saw it. I immediately identified with Duckie and Andi and all their weird friends. The next day, my Mom and I hit the thrift stores, and my love of vintage clothing began. As a native Angeleno, Repo Man spoke to me, as did its killer soundtrack and incredible dialogue. People used to diss it, but Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is a masterpiece, and I'm glad that it's terrifying and beautiful genius is finally being recognized, largely due to Twin Peaks: The Return. And the connecting line, besides just being important films to me, is Harry Dean Stanton. His quiet grace, his sad sack heart of fools gold, those eyes, eyes that you could project any emotion on to...the man transcended acting and created subtle art in every scene he was in. His face was a master class. And we're lucky to have a body of work to enjoy now that he's smoked his last cigarette.
