Splatoon for the Wii U used Gyro Aiming the way you were talking about.
Yeah, I heard about that... and that it basically made aim assist completely unnecessary.
Vita and 3DS games do it sometimes, too -- I know Gravity Rush and the Vita Uncharted game used it, as did that built-in AR 3DS shooter thing with the dragon and the bow on Ocarina of Time 3D. But it seems like it’s something that’s only used when the devs can’t use dual analog (or use it comfortably, in the case of the Vita), and it falls by the wayside when it’s not necessary.
(I really want it on the PS4 Uncharted games, because I love the experience of playing games like that, but dual analog has never really agreed with me. >_>; )

Which systems do you have? Because all of the games above have it, and if you have a PS4, you can click R3 when entering data to switch the annoyingly-slow D-pad virtual keyboard to an “aim at the key you want to press” version.
