THE   PAST.

han   never   knew   his   mother,   barely   remembers   his   father   --   he   had   worked   as   a   shipbuilder   until   he   was   laid   off,   abandoned   han   when   he   was   only   a   child.   corellia   was   a   planet   of   dark   corners,   and   it   SWALLOWED   children   up.   han   joined   the   white   worms   to   survive,   working   under   lady   proxima’s   abuse   until   he   made   a   break   for   it.   he   spent   a   short   time   in   the   imperial   navy   before   he   deserted,   joining   a   crew   of   thieves.   after   trying   and   failing   to   save   the   girl   he’d   loved,   winning   the   millenium   falcon   from   lando   calrissian,   he   set   off   on   his   own   to   be   a   smuggler.   well,   not   entirely   alone.   not   as   alone   as   he   was   used   to   being.   he   had   chewbacca,   the   first   person   who’s   ever   STAYED   by   his   side.  

years   of   refusing   to   care   end   in   one   fell   fucking   swoop   when   he   picked   up   the   right   wrong   passengers   on   tatooine   and   found   himself   on   a   quest   to   save   the   most   argumentative,   OBNOXIOUS   princess   in   the   galaxy.   he   loved   her   from   the   moment   she   started   bossing   him   around.   luke   and   leia   dragged   him   into   the   rebellion,   and   despite   all   his   bitching,   he   never   could   leave   them   for   long.   he   escaped   the   death   star,   stared   down   darth   vader,   had   an   unfortunate   tenure   as   jabba   the   hutt’s   favorite   statue   --   somewhere   along   the   way,   he   stopped   running.   he   found   a   FAMILY.   he   married   leia   after   endor,   and   he   lead   the   pathfinders   for   the   rebellion   and   the   new   republic   until   the   empire   was   declared   defeated.

THE   PRESENT.

han   still   isn’t   one   for   following   orders.   he   picked   up   smuggling   again   after   the   new   republic   became   more   established   --   but   this   time,   he   isn’t   working   for   crime   lords.   most   often,   he’s   breaking   small   blockades,   getting   supplies   to   remote   outposts,   FLOUTING   the   rule   of   the   hutts   in   the   outer   rim   to   support   stifled   communities.   if   asked,   he   highlights   the   private   sector   work   he   still   does,   the   things   that   make   him   real   credits.   on   occasion,   he   still   works   with   the   new   republic,   hunting   down   imperial   remnants.

meeting   people   from   the   past   and   the   future   is   a   lot.   finding   out   about   his   own   death   is   a   fucking   LOT.   there   has   been   a   crisis,   a   reckoning   with   his   own   mortality,   bubbling   under   his   skin   for   the   last   few   years,   an   anxious   tightening   in   his   throat.   the   old   familiar   urge   to   RUN   is   rising   up   again.   he’s   trying   to   resist   it.   he   wants   to   stay.   he   wants   a   family.

PERSONALITY.

han   likes   to   pretend   to   be   worse   than   he   is.   he   wants   to   be   the   suave   scoundrel,   but   qi’ra   knew   him   better   than   he   knows   himself   :   he’s   the   GOOD   GUY   at   his   core,   and   as   far   as   he’ll   run,   as   much   as   he’ll   protest,   he   will   do   the   right   thing   in   the   end.   he   hates   politics   and   is   suspicious   of   causes,   but   he   hates   bullies   more.   if   someone   hits   him,   he   hits   back.   and   he’ll   always   stay   loyal   to   those   that   he   loves.   he   is   brave,   bold,   and   smarter   than   he   looks.

he   feels   TOO   MUCH,   too   fiercely.   most   of   his   caustic,   cocky   persona   is   a   guard   against   that.   he’s   keenly   aware   of   his   failures,   of   his   furnace   heart,   and   some   fears   of   intimacy   that   are   often   overruled   by   his   head   over   heels   approach   to   romance.   his   childhood   has   left   its   MARKS   on   him,   but   he   doesn’t   speak   of   it.   he   talks   too   much,   constantly,   a   stream   of   snarky   repartee,   but   he   can   struggle   to   find   the   right   words   to   express   himself.   he’s   trying,   however,   to   GROW.   to   be   better.   he   wants   a   change,   wants   so   much   that   it   terrifies   him.
