The Damozel and the Ferryman

Very short fanfic set in the same world as @h0ll0wt0wn's lazari webcomic.

In distant sands, where clear waters flow in rivulets, there stands a pavilion of marble. Throughout, at regular intervals, stands pillars made in the hellenistic school, and between those along its edge is a parapet. Along the east side (if a direction such as east existed there), there was a gate that opened to a riverside, and there the Damozel of that place, engaged in the past time of the study of the future. Attended by her scions, she reclined on a seat of velvet under the shade of an alabaster umbrella, studying the movements of a complex armilia at her leisure

She of course, didn't need any mortal instrument to see the future. The paths of causality were always within her sigh. It was to her, however, novel to pluck the strings of the membrex, to consult the sway of the pendulum, and to score the clicks of the akethra, despite their comparatively lackluster results. To stimulate the mind was always a good thing, and to be content with one's own talents without want of improvement was abhorrent.

This passtime, however, was interrupted by a wave of shredded wind characteristic of the opening and closing of the bridge of magpies. Her scions stiffened as one of her kin stepped onto her sands. She, of course, has expected their arrival. Reluctantly she shifted her position so she could observe her visitor. Hades, the Black Abbot, stood straight in attentiveness. Clearly he wanted something from here, why else would he wear the more formal variant of his usual garb? The hooded sweatshirt had been traded out for the hooded cloak, and the usual gas mask had been left behind in favor of a more ornamental flavor, reminiscent of the mask he wore in centuries past.

"SIBYL."

"Abbot."

"the SCRYING is a beautiful as ever. "

The thing squatted down and picked up a few pinches of the rose colored sand. It examined it from behind the mask with the hollow void where a face would be.

Her scions shifted uncomfortably. None were fond of Terror of Death, and she herself only tolerated him.

"Why are you here, Hades?"

The thing was silent for a moment. He let the sand fall through his gloved fingers before standing back up. His head was downcast. It seamed he wasn't in the mood to indulge in his usual haughty persona.

"the conflict between the STRANGER and the TWISTING. will it be a problem for us?"

"Ah. Afraid you will be defined the pleasure of slaying Nyasient'e yourself?"

The Abbot scoffed

"no. we are sure the STRANGER will come out on top. but it will be close. not since the scourge of the HUNTER have they withdrawn from the glorious contest."

"And yet?"

"and yet i worry some loathsome cozener will make a mockery of the rules and strike the STRANGER while they recover. the PUPPETEER, for instance. it would be just like her." He clenched his fist at the thought.

"Selkie is busy planning one of her masques. You needn't worry,

"and the others? the DRINK? the HARE? the JURY? the SLITHERIER?"

The Damozel sighed and sat up. Her scions retreated slightly as she regarded the Ferryman.

"I could spend hours explaining to you why none would try or succeed in attacking Nyasient'e. Let it suffice it to say that if any of The Lords and Ladies involve themselves it the affair, it will be to either aid the Birchman or feast upon the last of the Nezper. If my words aren't enough, 'demean' yourself and offer your aid. You should be more than enough to assure their victory."

Hades considered.

"thank you SIBYL. i shall be on my way, though know I am in your debt. a reasonably boon may be requested, I'm sure you will know when you can ask."

With that the interloper vanished into the godsway. The Damozel huffed then sat back down.

"Violet, dear," she addressed one of her followers as she reclined back down, "would you please kindly fetch the Soth'ug astrolabe? The terrestrial one grows stale".

Do you have any advice for drawing static and glitches?

They look SO GOOOOD in the Marble Hornets Comics

Thank you!! I honestly just looked at a lot of screenshots from the original marble hornets/tta entries, and studied how the visual distortion worked and moved. There are certain rules or "looks" to different kinds of glitches, like for example vhs static is going to look vastly different from something like, old video or jpeg compression. Its about keeping those visual patterns consistent, if that makes sense.

And also keeping your lines as straight as possible, because a lot of digital glitching comes from the pixel "grid" its on if yknow what I mean. Keeping the lines straight can be hard but it makes a big difference.
