The Trump administration is considering making a formal reinterpretation of these statutes that would end the ability of longtime H-1B visa holders with pending green card applications to extend their H-1B visas in the US. This could mean potentially hundreds of thousands of H-1B visa workers—of which there are thousands in Charlotte working in the tech and finance industries—would be forced to depart the US.
