steve does a piss poor job of concealing a partially wilted bouquet of rainbow colored flowers behind his back while simultaneously sticking a box of chocolates out towards her. ( all the roses were sold out leaving only the tulips and daisies to fend for themselves on the floral display. he kind of liked the look of tulips and daisies up close. they held a bit more character than the classic red rose. but the bundle of them all mix matched together, clashing colors of yellow, fuchsia, and orange was a little more than overwhelming upon first sight. ) " happy valentine's day, partner! " after an awkward moment, he pulled out the flowers to present as well. smile wide, optimistic, and totally hopeless.
That's... actually pretty thoughtful of him. In a surprising-that-shouldn't-really-be-surprising-considering-what-she-knows-about-Steve kind of way. Like in the way that she knows he's a thoughtful person (it's one of the reasons she thinks he'll make a good mayor) and in the way that she knows he knows it's Valentine's Day (he'd been King Steve in school, after all, Mr Popularity, never without a date on Valentine's Day, definitely knows the date), but also in the way that she definitely hadn't expected him to get her anything -- hadn't really even considered the thought of it. But there he is with a box of chocolates and then whisking a brightly colored bouquet from behind his back, with an eager, well-meaning grin. "Oh -- thank you!" Does she sound totally caught off guard? She's not entirely sure, but she hopes she doesn't sound too thrown off. She takes the flowers and the box of chocolates. "That's... uh..." what, 'that's really nice of you'? (Come on, Dot, don't sound like a kid who never got presents or something.) "You want a chocolate? I can't eat them all in front of you and not share." She pauses, then, just in case she's sounding too sentimental or anything adds, "Don't think this means I'm not still making you work on that speech."
