Haag-Streit UK, the leading manufacturer and distributor of gold-standard optometry and ophthalmic equipment, is pleased to announce the launch of the Haag-Streit Surgical Microscope Imaging and Operation System (MIOS) 4.

Developed closely with surgeons and other users, the MIOS 4 boasts clear colour-coded menus. The intuitive navigation ensures easy handling of patient data with an intelligent search facility.

The fully medical-graded system is fitted with a high-quality, 19-inch, movable touch screen, ensuring that images are clearly visible from any position. The integrated DICOM module allows patient data to be downloaded from the hospital server. Previous patient images can be accessed during surgery and placed next to the live image for comparison. Images taken during surgery can be archived, for a later comparison.

The new MIOS 4 boasts an excellent automatic editing feature, which records and stores live video and photographic snapshots during surgical procedures. The surgeon is no longer required to watch the video recording of an operation to mark highlights. A five hour operation could easily be summarised into a 20 minute highlight video.

Steve Derham, HS-UK Product Manager, said, The automatic editing function is a very useful feature. It gives the surgeon the ability to highlight a certain part of the surgery using footswitch controls. A defined sequence before and after this is also recorded. Following the surgery, all the sequences are connected to create one automatically edited video of surgery highlights. This, along with the ease-of-use and clear, precise navigation, will save the surgeon a lot of time.

The MIOS 4 software has been designed specially to support everyday surgery. Built modularly, the software can be tailored to each customers individual needs. Data from the MIOS 4 system can be easily exported using a USB, CD-R, DVD or via DICOM. The system has a huge storage capacity of 1TB.
