        her eyes widen at the question, the letterman   sweater held in her hands mid-fold.  it was, as far as she was aware, quiet for the past few minutes they were standing outside the locker room.  she knows it could have been anything — it was highly unlikely that they were the last two people in school at that hour.  still, considering her recent track record of hearing  ( and seeing )  things, chrissy couldn’t help but be a little bit paranoid at the question.  “hear what?”  she asks, and she says a silent prayer that some other student would appear at the end of the hall in a second to put her at ease.

        “yeah — cheer captain now.”  chrissy gives her a   bashful shrug as her fingers run over the patch on her sweater.  there should’ve been more excitement in her tone; it wasn’t that chrissy wasn’t happy about having one of the most prestigious titles in high school, though.  she just had too much on her plate at the moment to feel as ecstatic as she should have.  “no one’s quit so far, so i think i’m doing a pretty good job.”
