Day Six: A Band Called Death (2013) If you are a creative type, like myself, no matter what it is you create, watch this movie now! The incredible true story about three brothers from Detroit who formed what can arguably be called the first punk-rock band. Three brothers, led by David Hackney, with Dannis and Bobby, were heavily influenced by the likes of The Who and Alice Cooper, and discovered a sound that can only be compared to The Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Yet these kids did it years before either of those bands ever formed!!! I was floored by the heart and soul exhibited in this documentary. These kids tried their damnedest to be original and to do their thing. It’s horribly unfortunate that none of their early efforts ever truly caught on, or that singer David would die before his band Death would be rediscovered to much acclaim decades later. Be warned - there is a scene with what I can only describe as a creeper of a record collector raving about his prized find of one of their early EPs. All that aside, this is one beautiful story that illustrates why it’s important to never give up, and to always listen to punk rock… I mean, your heart. And punk rock, too. #punkrock #punkrawk #abandcalleddeath #top10 #top10films #hackneybrothers (at Alexandria, Virginia)
