Jeju Island is referred to as one of the world's wonders. It's only an hour from Seoul, and the next destination on our Korea trip.
Jeju is completely different from Seoul. The trees are different, and the vibes here are completely separate. It feels like walking in Hawaii with all the tourists, but there's less of a sense of tourism, if that makes sense.
I'm not sure how to explain it - it's obviously geared toward tourists, but I guess it also feels like home. I guess it helps having our family who are seasoned vacationers here help guide us.
Our first meal with hwedopbap which is like a poke bowl with raw fish and rice. It had some of the best broth I've ever had in my life. It's a day later, and I am still thinking about that broth. I might be thinking about it until the day I die. It also came with norimji which is the crispy rice at the edge of the bowl you drench with water to make a sort of tea.
The owners told us that everything is self service even the sides and drinks and broth. It was so unique, and I kind of love it for that.
We finished our meal with a cute cafe with the cutest aesthetic.
I loved it here and I wish I could live here.
Finally, we finished our trip going to seongsan ilchulbul. It is a gorgeous mountain range that overlooks the sea. We didn't get to climb the peak because of the weather, but it is definitely a bucket list item to do one day.
At the bottom of the mountain is a haenyo house where there are still active haenyo divers. It is good to know that the commercialization of people's lives is a universal concept. Still though, the beach they live on was absolutely gorgeous and filled with these unique rock formations I have never seen before. If I could be reborn, I'd love to live on these beaches forever.
