THE  WORDS  CUT  her  deeper  than  she  would  like  to  admit  ,  gaze  cast  downward  as  doubt  raced  through  her  mind  .  was  he  really  that  irredeemable  ?  his  father  had  been  the  one  to  hurt  him  ,  traumatize  him  ---  hell  ,  his  whole  family  did  .  they  turned  him  into  this  ,  kai  parker  was  the  product  of  long  neglect  and  deep  rooted  resentment  .  she  felt  for  him  ,  but  could  not  EXCUSE  what  he  had  done  to  her  birth  mother  and  how  he  had  tried  to  kill  both  her  and  lizzie  .  despite  this  ,  she  was  willing  to  offer  some  kind  of  understanding  ,  a  familial  love  that  he  had  never  received  .  she  might  not  be  able  to  save  him  ,  turn  him  back  to  the  light  ---  but  that  didn’t  mean  that  she  couldn’t  BE  KIND  .

‘    maybe  not  ---  but  i’m  not  pathetic  for  trying  to  help  you  .  i  just  wish  you  weren’t  so  scared  to  open  up  to  the  possibility  of  someone  actually  being  nice  to  you  .  you  might  have  done  all  those  bad  things  ,  but  there’s  always  a  way  to  turn  back  .  you’re  still  my  uncle  and  i’m  not  gonna  let  you  push  me  out  .    ’

              dark  orbs  narrow  at  his  words  --  a  slight  scoff  leaving  her  lips  as  she  tilts  her  head  to  the  side  in  disbelief.    “  well,  that’s  precisely  it,  isn’t  it  ?  the  truth  can  be  a  lot  of  things,  but  i  don’t  get  why  you’re  so  caught  up  in  versions.  ”   witch  takes  a  moment  to  think  of  how  else  to  establish  her  point.  sometimes  it  wasn’t  easy  to  talk  to  kai.  “  how  about  your  truth  ?  cut  the  crap  ---  i  know  you  lie.  but  i  can’t  understand  if  you  don’t  tell  me  anything  honestly.  ”

                dark  orbs  widen  at  the  raw  intensity  of  the  heretic’s  words.  she  hadn’t  expected  him  to  be  so  fundamentally  terrified  of  the  concept  of  isolation.  perhaps  hopping  from  one  prison  world  to  another  had  left  him  drained,  unable  to  cope  with  the  idea  of  being  alone  once  more.  but  he  was  a  user.  manipulative,  cold-blooded.  maybe  his  circumstances  and  traumatic  childhood  led  him  to  become  the  person  he  was  today,  but  josie  knew  he’d  leave  her  high  and  dry  the  second  it  suited  him.

                “    i’m  not  you,  kai.  i  don’t  use  people  to  get  what  i  want,  or  hurt  them  the  second  they  stop  being  useful.  you’re  a  liar.  if  i  let  you  come  with  me,  you’ll  just  try  and  kill  me  and  lizzie  again,  or  dad.  i  can’t  trust  you.  and  no  more  information  for  information.  i’m  tired  of  all  the  manipulation.    ”
