when he wraps his arms around her and pulls her suddenly fragile - seeming body into his lap , closer & closer , the sobs choke out whether she wants them to or not . she can’t help herself as her tears soak his sleeves . shuddering , hard , soleil leans back just a little and lets him cradle her , as if it was back in the old days when she was young , and she would lay in his lap , her mother leaning over his shoulder , and they would sing to her , together , attempting to get her crying - self to find peace .
