As the people gathered up, Anna began to feel a little out of place. All of them knew him and he knew all of them. She was a stranger here and she felt like she was intruding on some part of his life that she didn’t belong in. At the same time, she wanted to be here and to see what his roots were.
“Hey, Jasper, can you give the guitar back to your uncle when he gets home?” a young woman named Hailey asked him, after playing for those present for several minutes. “It was sweet of him to lend it to me, but I’m getting my own later this week.”
“Sure thing,” he promised taking the instrument.
“You should play for us, man” Calvin told him and Alouette, supported the idea. “It’s technically your instrument.”
“Yeah, you were always so good at it,” she recalled.
“Ah, I haven’t played in a while,” he tried to excuse himself, but the others urged him on.
“Wait, you know how to play guitar?” Anna’s curiosity peaked. “You never told me.”
“I’m just amateur at it,” he warned her, but at the same time, his hands were already moving towards the instrument. Soon, a familiar old tune rang out over the flames, bringing a smile to everyone’s face.
