NASCAR Bans Hail Melon as Part of New Rule
Ross Chastain’s maneuver prompted a change in NASCAR due to how successfully he pulled it off.
Chastain posted the fastest Cup Series lap time ever in Martinsville when he rode the wall.
It raised the question of how NASCAR could prevent the move from becoming a common practice among other racers.
Due to how well it was executed, the organization decided it should be illegal.
As a result, if other drivers try to make the same move, they will be assessed a time penalty.
Elton Sawyer, NASCAR’s vice president of competition, said it wasn’t a new rule.
“I think we all remember the last-lap move at Martinsville in the fall,” he said.
“Brought a great deal of excitement, a great deal of exposure to our sport. But it also came with some scrutiny.”...........Read More
