Out of curiosity, why do you ship Sawamura and Sendo? Is it because their personalities are similar, but I would like to know because I never see SawaSendo content

The opposite actually i ship them bc their personalities are so different! ^^

Yea theyre both fighty, their boxing having been a more polished refined version of their own street fighting preferences, but theyre polar opposites. Sendo is loud whereas Sawamura is quiet, Sawamura is (was) cruel whereas Sendo is harmless mostly, Sawamura was hated by all in his neighborhood whereas Sendo was and still is loved by all in his neighborhood

But despite this they have rly cute/funny interactions with each other especially after Sawamura’s loss to Mashiba.

Idk, i just think theyre cute lol. I like how Sendo is Sawamura’s only friend (other than Kawabe) and he becomes his friend begrudgingly but u can tell he actually genuinely cares for him, bc Sendo is a softie.

I like how Sawamura acts like he can’t stand Sendo’s presence but they still hang out lol. I like how hes accommodating to Sendo (see: Sendo’s beatdown tour and Sawamura was essentially his tour guide around Nagoya)

I especially love how Sendo can see riiiiiight thru Sawamura’s bullshit. When Sawamura’s being a crazy mofo and he starts yelling at Sendo and asking him for a fight, and then calls him a pussy when Sendo rejects, Sendo, who is usually prone to anger and is v fighty and confrontational essentially just blows Sawamura off. Because he can tell he’s only acting this way bc he’s self destructive and perceives that hes alone and LIKES being alone. Best part? When Sendo visits him in the hospital after he loses to Ippo and he basically explains why Ippo’s amazing lmao, but also, once again, sees right thru Sawamura’s bullshit and reminds him that he’s not the only one whose had a troubled upbringing; hes not the only one whose had to go thru foster care (talking abt Kawabe)

So yea idk i just think their dynamic is rly compelling and plus i think they should kiss a little bit lol

aight this is a stylistic issue and before everyone is like “this is a long manga style changes” blah blah yea i hear u, ofc i get that, as an artist i get that forreal. ur style will change and u can do whatever u please with ur style, and for that im glad that art is what it is. growing and changing, evermore.

that doesnt mean, i cant notice shit that occurs that never used to occur and not be pissy abt it, i.e. theres a whole lotta same face now.

and its simply, well, it sucks u kno.

Before, everyone to a degree, had distinct characteristics.

Ippo’s face was round, Takamura had a jarhead, Aoki and Kimura had killer cheekbones and other features telling of their age. Iimura had a Grown Woman That Takes No Shit look, slim face sharp eyes. Itagaki had a childish pretty-boy face, Miyata had a slim Handsome Boy look to him, Sendo had a longer face and sharp jawline, and everyone somewhat had different noses. Ippo’s nose was round and cute, while i.e. Miyata and Sendo had sharp noses

now, everyone’s face is round. everyone has the same nose. only difference btwn everyone’s faces are their eyes. but even then, features arent distinct to that character anymore it all looks a bit recycled.

Theres a number of panels in Takamura’s fight w/ Bison after he was gettin his shit fucked up where he literally looks like Sendo, as compared to, the way Takamura still looked like Takamura when he got his shit fucked up by Hawk.

and that just, kinda rly sucks to see u kno, like … its such a downgrade. 

Theres also everyone’s body type being the same but, thats honestly been that way for a loonnnnngggg time, so i cant rly even bitch abt it too much but yea.

mmm I see your point, tru, tru. I didn't think about his height, I just assumed since Randy Boy Jr. is only one inch taller at the most, it wouldn't much matter, but jokes on me I forget every inch counts. And I guess it might not work with the peek-a-boo, (and my memory is rlly bad so I'm sorry if I sound very wrong) but I was thinking a lot about Take, since he does the same thing Ippo does. Turn into a submarine. I might be using the term switch hit wrong to describe what I'm thinking, too.

I think the thing about how Ippo is so good at multiple aspects of boxing is that Coach doesn't fucking cater to everything Ippo can do. All he does is train Ippo's best feature (His power, the Dempsey, etc.) when he should teach him how to better use his fuckin sponge powers. Little fucker can mimic you like no one's business. Like, Randy Boy Jr. can switch hit.... Ippo could TOTALLY learn that, seeing as how he DID IT his FIRST match. That would be soooo good against counters.

MMM while i DO agree that Ippo is very good at soaking up new information, i don’t think Coach is teaching him skills like switching between orthodox and southpaw and switch hitting because it isn’t really something Ippo would be able to utilize all too well ,

reason i say that is because Ippo is an infighter. Now why do you think that is?

a) Allows him to capitalize on his strengths, i.e., closing into his opponents space and dragging them into hitting matches

b) Because He is Short.

like thats why I don’t think Ippo would be as efficient in switch hitting, because in order to do that, you cant really fight too close to your opponent, you have to stand a considerable distance away, and Ippo cant really do that because hes short and lacks reach.

this panel is my fave and is p relevant tbh bc it not only exemplifies the difference in fighting styles (Sendo fights in Brawling Style, while Ippo in Peek-a-boo) it shows.. the impact the style has on the fighter ? idk how to phrase that

this is also a v interesting comparison (that i totally made on purpose) because Sendo, like Randy Boy Jr., can switch hit as well, and he doesnt need to take a stance either

so what am i getting :

Could Ippo switch hit? yea sure, im so certain he could learn and do well. but should he? would it benefit someone his size, and with his fighting style? not really. Ippo doesnt fight that way, his size kinda makes it hard to fight that way, and why fight that way when he has other strengths u kno?

i like to think that gif of ippo is showing how you view him when you move from out of the ring to the inside. outside, he looks like a good boxer but you can prob take him. but when you step in and the bell sound, boi you betta fight for your life or he's gonna shove them hands down ya got dam throat

what i love is that they make Ippo’s eyes just red flashes, as if he’s a demon and i find it so FITTING because thats just how he ACTS in there. He comes at his opponent quite mercilessly, like, he’s ended more than 4 careers now like .. 

he’s just so good and i LOVE his duality, the fact that he is still that lovely soft person but when he’s REALLY feeling it and dedicated he can transform into this frightening fucking entity that people don’t want to go near or mess with

Listen Ippo Is Great because He is Beautiful and gentle and lovely, a Literal ray of light, a true Child of the Heavens

But simultaneously He is My Strong Mans, My Husband, My Baby Daddy, 

just a psa
