I love your Rock Facts! Do you have a rock or mineral collection? What's your dream specimen?

Yeee I am glad people enjoy them.

I do actually. I have some raw gems that I count as part of my geological rather than magic collection. (Some double but the tumbled gems I don’t count with the geology collection.) I also have rocks that I have collected from my geology field trips for class.

Ooof, tbh, one of my dream specimens in many ways is very tame since it’s rather easy, comparatively speaking, to obtain. I’d love to have a nice chunk of basalt with large xenolith inclusions in it but I want one with really really nice olivine phenocrysts. They’re super pretty.

My other dream would be to have a pallasite meteorite because goddamn are those gorgeous.

11 - Do all your spirit companions get along with each other?

Come to think of it, yeah they do. In the early days, shortly after “meeting” Amber, I went through a small coyote craze, and for a while she was the only non-coyote I had contact with. She was not amused. But she got over it.

I mix predator and prey species freely, with no real repercussions. I think they understand that they’re all dead and that there’s nothing to “eat”, and thus no fear of being “eaten”.

15 - What offerings do your spirit companions like?

I don’t really do much in the way of offerings, outside of time spent with them and cuddles. I’ll sleep under the pelts, or keep a deer skull beside me while I browse tumblr.

Daru makes a huge stink (literally--it’s how he gets my attention) if I bring blackberries into the room, and I have to share them with him if I want my room to smell like something other than dusty old bear. So I guess that counts.

Honestly, I'd keep a journal of events. Every time you find a bone, write it down. Day, time, where you were looking, how you were feeling, all that. And whenever your friend has a hardship, write that down, too, along with the specific circumstances. Note when something good happens to them as well, and note when you go looking but don't find anything. It'll either disprove the correlation or give you more insight into what's going on.

It only seemed to go the opposite way once, but the “bad” for me was nowhere near what it had been for her–I period’ed on my favorite pair of undies and banged my elbow really bad, whereas the last “bad” for her had been the landlord threatening to evict her family in two days if they didn’t pay double rent and her mom–the sole provider for the family then–almost getting laid off on the same day.

And it isn’t just finding dead things, either. In fact, it’s rarely that. The “good” things for me can be as stupidly simple as buying a cute shirt, indulging in something nice, having a good day in general… and then we talk online and I find out her dad might have had another heart attack, or that her mom didn’t get the raise they desperately needed, or they might not be able to pay the next electric bill, or her toxic family dropped in for a visit and is begging for money again…

I highly doubt her tragedies are somehow my fault, but it’s happened enough times that good things for me line up with bad things for her that some part of me can’t help but be superstitious.

What's your favorite scent for a) incense, b) food, and c) just in general?

Oooh! These are good ones!

a) Dragons blood for incense

b) Baking pastry in the oven (that yeasty vanilla smell)

c) Ok this is incredibly specific: I live a few blocks from the coast, and some of the houses between there and here grow lavender, and in the summer, my yard smells like roses and lavender and chamomile baked in the sun, and when a storm is just blowing in the wind smells like sea and lavender and grass, and when the two mix together its just absolute perfection

I don't know if it was mentioned before, but in the search for non-minty toothpaste, a lot of "natural foods"-type stores have a good selection of alternate flavors that tend to be really mild. As a bonus, because they're sold in stores where people are really conscious of the ingredients, they tend to be listed very clearly with all the herbs used to flavor them. They offer more "earthy" flavors like anise, clove, and tea tree oil (that last one tends to pack a punch as far as smells go).
