She was part of a group of traveling actors growing up along with her mother (who is possibly an elf? still rotating) and when she was a teenager, through a series of pretty unlikely events, managed to get acknowledged as the bastard child of Bann Trevelyan, and taken into the family, because they look very much alike, and he had a moment of weakness around her birth with a traveling actor/bard (is she actually his child? well whos to say?) shes been living the high life pretending to be way more pious than she is to fit in and lying her ass off to everyone around her. shes managed to hide her magical ability from everyone untill now because shes not particularly powerful, and when the Breach happens shes like "its a miracle from Andraste, praise be!"
alternatively if she did go to the circle, she manifested her magic pretty late and still managed to get in a few years with the Trevelyans. either way she has a complicated relationship with all her half-siblings and the rest of her family
