Halal, ISO and GMP Explained—Why They Matter
By Rizwan Farooq Channa
Sometimes, a parent will ask me, “This supplement says it’s halal, but what does that really mean?” Or a hospital procurement officer will say, “You mention ISO and GMP certifications—should we care?”
And I understand the questions.
In a market flooded with wellness products, labels can blur into background noise. But at Nutritech Nutrition, based in Pakistan, these certifications are not decorations—they’re foundations. They tell a story about how we work, why we work the way we do, and what we refuse to compromise on.
In this article, I want to strip away the jargon and explain what Halal, ISO, and GMP actually mean in practice—and why they matter so deeply to us and, I think, to every consumer and healthcare provider who uses our products.
HALAL: More than religious compliance
Let’s start with Halal. For many, it’s just about ingredients. No pork, no alcohol. That’s part of it—but the standard runs deeper.
Halal certification also governs:
Sourcing transparency (Where do raw materials come from?)
Sanitation practices (Are facilities free from cross-contamination?)
Manufacturing ethics (Is the process respectful of health, environment, and labor?)
In countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, and across Muslim-majority nations in Africa, Halal isn’t optional—it’s essential.
For Nutritech, Halal isn’t just a checkbox. It’s a trust contract with families, doctors, and institutions. When we say a formula like Gynogid Forte or Glumin SR is halal, we’re saying it’s safe, respectful, and aligned with the values of the people who use it.
ISO: International Standards Organization
Now, ISO. It sounds technical—and it is. But here’s the core idea:
ISO certification means we follow globally recognized best practices for how we run our operations.
There are many types, but at Nutritech, we maintain:
ISO 9001 – Focused on quality management. Ensures we document everything, measure performance, and improve continuously.
ISO 22000 – Specific to food safety management. Critical in the production of ingestible products like supplements and clinical nutrition.
Why does this matter? Because in clinical nutrition, margin for error is tiny. A mislabelled dose, a contaminated batch, or an unstable formula can have serious consequences—especially for vulnerable populations like infants, the elderly, or immunocompromised patients.
ISO ensures our systems are auditable, repeatable, and globally credible.
GMP: Good Manufacturing Practice
Finally, there’s GMP—Good Manufacturing Practice.
If ISO tells you what systems are in place, GMP tells you how we manufacture products on the ground.
That includes:
Air quality controls
Personnel hygiene protocols
Batch traceability
Regular audits
Calibrated equipment
GMP is what keeps a formula consistent. You don’t want the first bottle of Enerbest to be perfect, and the tenth to be slightly off. In clinical settings, that can’t happen. GMP ensures every scoop, every sachet, every drop—acts exactly as intended.
In one recent audit, a visiting inspector from a partner institution in East Africa told us, “Your facility’s GMP compliance is stronger than some European suppliers we’ve worked with.” That meant a lot—not because we’re in competition, but because quality should never be geography-dependent.
Why all three matter together
When Halal, ISO, and GMP converge, you get something rare: nutrition that’s clean, consistent, and culturally trusted.
That’s what we build at Nutritech Nutrition. And it’s why our formulas are used in neonatal wards, cancer units, maternal clinics, and military hospitals—not just in Pakistan, but across borders.
We don’t expect patients to inspect our certifications. But we believe they feel the results—in faster recovery, better tolerance, and deeper confidence in care.
A global platform for local values
This November, Nutritech Nutrition is honored to be a nominee at the 2025 Go Global Awards, hosted by the International Trade Council in London.
This isn’t just a business award. It’s a gathering of companies who believe in building something that matters—not just to shareholders, but to communities, caregivers, and the next generation.
At that event, we’ll stand proudly—not only as a Pakistani company, but as one committed to global standards rooted in local ethics.
Because at the end of the day, certifications are only as meaningful as the principles behind them. And ours are simple: do no harm, build trust, and deliver nutrition that truly heals.
Final word
In a world full of labels, Halal, ISO, and GMP might sound like industry terms.
But to me? They’re shorthand for something deeper: integrity.
At Nutritech, they guide every batch we produce, every partner we serve, and every promise we make. And as we continue to grow, they’ll remain our non-negotiables.
Not just for compliance. But because people deserve nothing less.
