Is there a good way to start with Kamen Rider? We watched one randomly with a Hitler Starfish??? But i liked the Concept and its cool, so can i just start whenever? And if i can, whats your favourite series?
Fave series would be (in no particular order):FaizDen-oKivaKabutoWOOOFourzeWizardSeries I still enjoyed:DriveGaim (though ‘kachidoki arms’ takes the rare honor of one of my fave ‘mid/final’ forms. Often don’t like them, so yes, that says something about the design team X3 )Decade
I haven’t watched too many others. IF I really had to nail it down more: W, OOO, and Fourze are all incredible despite any issues each had (W’s 2 eps flow that kinda messed with the plot progress, Fourze’s silly premise to start with, suit design, and just how many switches he has... litereally 40+, and OOO for it’s pacing issues and mostly lackluster final eps)All three of those have a heart to them and a solid through line of their core themes that ring so true that even with the seems showing and issues abounding at every turn, you don’t care, and you will likely cry at the end of all of them (weeeell, W pulls a cop-out with it’s final eps, but it’s not a total ass-pull thing. There is a cost measured and paid for the cop-out, so earned, but still tarnishes the previous eps just a bit. Good episode, just... you’ll see if/when you get there).
As I pointed out on a previous post, I still tear up when ever I think of the last henshin for the OOO main series. One of the most emotional transformation moments in the history of the whole Rider thing (not the only one, I’m sure but it’s up there with the best of any others)
Never an easy answer with me. sorry. ^_^;
But there you go. I think depending on your style, I think it can be broken down like this:If you don’t mind silly almost empathic embarrasment and high school stuff (the EE is not that bad, but the show has it’s moments where I almost had to stop from that feel XD ) Then Fourze is your bet.If you want a story about desire, a bickering psudo couple (seriously, folks often paired Ankh and Eiji. it was a thing), some really catchy henshins, and the most tear jerker of a final transformation moment? OOO is solid despite some pacing issues.And if you love scubby doo, enjoy some great trust moments between partners, and just one of the most bad ass earned moments of a character arc completing, then W is the best. Just, feel free to accept either timeline depending on if you accept the final eps or not. And believe me, it’s a struggle for all of us to decide if we want the ‘true’ ending or the ‘right’ ending.
