"Tragically, [the] antipathy between some second-wave feminists and trans women has significantly contoured the terrain of contemporary trans activism, presenting a stumbling block for coalition building in the United States. It has come at the expense of embracing the many radical feminists from the 1970s and ’80s, such as Andrea Dworkin, who did not see trans women as enemies, who understood the category of “woman” to include trans women, and even in some cases advocated for free hormones and surgery. An obsessive focus on the radical feminists who rejected trans women has caused us to overlook the majority who embraced trans women as integral to the struggle." - Jack Halberstam
