I wish more parents would realize that youth does not necessarily equal strength/ability. Theoretically, yes, a younger person, who has been through less shit, should be able to just go out and do a physical task with ease. But, regardless of how or why the person is unable to do something, even if it’s their own fault, they are still unable to do it, and so parents shouldn’t gripe at their children for not being able to do certain things sometimes.
For example, I woke up around 3pm one day last week and immediately had to go help some people move my aunt’s old TV and entertainment center. In theory, it should have been no problem for me because I’m a young strapping lad, right?
Nope. I blew out my left shoulder and had back pain for 3 days. Sure, the reason I got hurt is because of years of bad posture and not getting regular exercise, which I know is my fault. Regardless, I got hurt and struggled to do the task. So don’t go throwing age around as an excuse for why someone should or should not be able to do a task. The old guy I was on the job with was a mountain man who could probably lift a goat with one hand and not break a sweat. So yeah, age isn’t everything people.
