not gonna lie, the first episode of YashaHime had me smiling ear to ear with tears in my eyes.
all the memories of watching InuYasha came flooding back, and it just made me so happy to actually see the continuation.. it just made me happy, and emotional, and nostalgic, and i can’t wait to see more.
So I just watched episode 1 of Yashahime...
And I am NOT disappointed. At all.
Could it be improved? Mm, yeah. From a writing standpoint, if they wanted to include the past for backstory, it would be stronger writing to just make all that back story the first episode(s) and then transition to our new mains, since this was just a teensy bit jarring.
But we also need to remember that the major plot points of the original Inuyasha anime had been created in the manga, and that Yashahime is basically being made from scratch. So no, it won’t be as strongly written as the original.
Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode. I love that we get a decent grasp of our three mains’ personalities (poor Moroha just had to inherit more from her father...), that long-time fans get to see more of what happened to our original gang. I’m also REALLY happy to see that the anime actually touched on the issue of changing history! Kagome never really worried about that in the original Inuyasha, so it was actually fun to see Towa concerned about it in here!
As a first episode, it definitely wasn’t horrible, and I’m really excited to see where this story goes.
Also: kudos to Takahashi for designing our mains in actual functional battle clothes. NO MORE SKIRTS.
