When the Dark Lord cast the killing curse on Harry Potter on 31 October 1981, it did kill the baby... but not all the way.
Harry Potter was half-dead, an Halfa.
And that fact was never discovered till Danny Phantom proved the existence of ghosts to muggles, who began to question if others supernatural creatures existed.
Harry was watching the telly when Phantom appeared on the news, and the young wizard started to connect the dots about how he could turn intangible and invisible if he wished, and why he was more comfortable in the presence of the dead.
