@halfknighted reassured: ❛ you know, you can always count on me. ❜

"No thanks.” Idia knows Ashe isn’t offering, he’s reassuring Idia. Trying to be a good friend and remind Idia, ‘You’re not alone’. It shouldn’t annoy Idia. But it does. It digs under his skin like a bug and crawls across his nerves making him fidgety, anxious. ‘You’re just trying to play hero’ because wasn’t that who Ashe was? The embodiment of the heroes they both adored so much. Only a few times before had Idia seen someone so fitting of the title of ‘hero’. It should have been comforting to know there were heroes in real life. He should be reassured by the fact that he was friends with someone who would surpass him one day, who would surely go on and become a fine hero that the world would cheer for. But it wasn’t comforting nor reassuring. It was infuriating, it was terrifying. It was a reminder of what he couldn’t do, a reminder of his own faults and a reminder of how he failed.
So badly he wanted to hate Ashe to yell at him to leave and never ever come back. But he couldn’t, the bastard made it too fucking hard to hate him. So instead they were friends or as close to friends as Idia could get. They shared interests, Ashe tried to be his hero as he did with many others and Ida resented him for it. Idia didn’t want a hero not even if he needed one. He wanted to be his own hero even if that desire was out of his reach, it was what he wanted.
“I don’t need you watching out for me. I can take care of myself.” As though life just had to prove him wrong he found himself stumbling from his walking position then. If Ashe hadn’t caught his arm he’d have fallen face first into the ground. Idia looks to his arm then to Ashe before pulling his arm away. Not yanking it or ripping it away like he wanted. Just a gentle enough tug to show he no longer needed help standing.
“Thanks.” He mutters trying to hide how red his face and hair were turning with embarrassment. “But don’t.” ‘Don’t do this to yourself.’ He wants to warn Ashe. ‘Don’t do this to me.’ He wants to beg the world.
