Supertramp – Crime Of The Century Label: A&M Records – SPJ-3647 Series: Audiophile Series Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Reissue, Half Speed Mastered Country: Canada Released: 1978
This afternoon I was fortunate enough to obtain a longtime ‘grail’ in my Record collection Supertramp’s legendary Prog Rock concept album ‘Crime Of The Century’! A lot of Classic Rock fan’s consider ‘Crime Of The Century’ to be Supertramp’s 1978 answer to Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’.
All of the songs were written by Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies. My pressing is A&M Records of Canada Limited Audiophile Series (Half-Speed Mastered) from 1978. Here are some notes from the Crime of The Century’s back jacket -“This record has been manufactured according to an entirely new process where an exact replica is cut at half speed from the original 76 cm/second master tapes and placed onto anti-static vinyl of the highest quality. This half-speed cutting allows the cutting stylus twice as much time to accurately carve a groove making this the most accurate sound reproduction possible”
‘Crime of the Century’ was recorded at Trident Studios, Ramport Studios and Scorpio Sound. The record was mastered by Darrell Johnson at JVC Cutting Center in Los Angeles (Half Speed Mastered). Finally pressed in Japan as part of A&M Records of Canada, Scarborough, Ontario Limited Audiophile Series.
