The Electrum Artist Feature takes a closer look at the words and stories of the contributors to our anthology!
Artist Double Feature #25 is Charlene Soto and Kelsey Soto. Charlene, born in San Diego, was blessed to have been able to grow up in a mixed race home. She is a Chicana illustrator whose work is inspired by black and white cult films, 1950's illustration, cows, and alebrijes. Her sister Kelsey has been writing for the past few years saving story ideas and writing poems. Only in the most recent years as a student at San Diego State University did she begin writing short stories. Her motivation stems from the belief that we were meant to share our experiences in this life. Kelsey believes that the more we can perceive from a different point of view, the more understanding we can be.
In Charlene and Kelsey’s comic “Silent Waves,” a mixed girl crossing the border into her mother’s home of Mexico finds that the language barrier can be overcome with the power of dance and kindness.
We’re looking forward to sharing more of our art and artists with you~
