Happy Trails, Halima!
One thing about & Juliet is it’s gonna introduce you to some really cool dancers. I’m glad that one of those dancers happened to be Halima Dodo. It’s been so much fun getting to watch her dance in this show these past 7 months. Although her time here was short, she left a big impact on all of us.
When I was first told about Halima, one of the first things that was said was “her opening solo is CRAZY”. That gave me hope for the type of dancer she would be. And then I watched her do that solo 41 times and never once did she repeat a combination. She’s such a brilliant and creative performer, it was always fun watching to see what she’d come up with each show. Her solo was in fact crazy.
Something that stuck out to me the first time I saw her onstage was the pose she did for problem. It was so exaggerated in a way that really scratched my brain. In that moment, I knew that one day I would draw her in that pose. Then when it was announced she was leaving, it became the idea for her happy trails art.
I always love how up she is for being silly with us. From pulling faces from the stage to her little emoji comments on instagram, she’s been nothing but a joy to have around. I’m gonna miss watching her dance at the Sondheim, the way she moves is so mesmerizing and her facial expressions in the backgrounds of scenes will never not make me laugh. Can’t wait to watch her crush it on that stage one last time tonight, happy trails Halima!
