There it is! In all its fully painted glory! The Ranger Sequoia!

(Used my lunch hour to finish up the hand-painting work. I'll give it a final coat of satin clearcoat tonight.)

Haunted Mojave Wasteland

Daylight Edition

Did the full setup tonight, along with a shakedown test of the fog and audio systems. We are ready to go for the big night on Friday!

Only thing I didn't get finished in time was the Ghoul gravemarker & radaway bags. I just didn't have time to get it made this year. But I'll keep it in the back pocket for next year.

I'll be posting the after-dark images shortly, along with a short video walkthrough.

Haunted Mojave Wasteland

Night Edition

Here it is, in all its nighttime glowing glory!

Armor is complete!

Used some EVA foam and contact cement to join the two pieces. Then used hot glue to attach the nylon webbing straps. Went with an x-back style to the straps, which is pretty comfortable and easy to adjust.

Very happy with how it looks all together!

One more under the cut...

Not keen on having the helmet on with the eyes still blacked out. But did it real quick to get a (blind) photo.

Still more helmet work to be done, but liked getting a look at the full impression.

Tool malfunctions aside, I am SO DAMN HAPPY with how this is turning out.

A lot of love and effort is going in to this project. And I'm having such a blast with it, too.

Cannot wait to see how it all looks put together in the end.

NCR Ranger helmet, Version 2 - Paint Complete

Paint and weathering is done. Wiring the LEDs is done. Padding is done.

Work Remaining:

- Lenses (Waiting on materials for the vacuum former frame)

- Better Velcro straps for attaching the faceplate, as the magnets alone won't hold it while moving around. (Materials on the way)

If all goes well, I should be done by Friday.

I only nearly glued my hands together once today while wiring up the lights, too.

As a bonus...

Much better proportions, I think.

I'm going to need to wear a buff under the helmet. My hair gets in the way of the straps, so will need to keep it contained. Tested with one I had on hand, but it's colored like a whale shark, so I'm ordering one in a solid, neutral color.

Very close to done. Cannot wait to put it all to use at Goodsprings next month!

Engraving and other gold accents are paint complete on my Ranger Sequoia!

Going to give it about 24 hours for it all to fully dry and set, then we'll switch the masking and start working on simulating the 'wood' on the grip.

Then after that, just have the gold accents on the grip and some overall weathering.

Painting the engraving on the Ranger Sequoia is slow, slightly stressful work.

Basically, I have to hand paint in the engraving marks, then have a wet shop rag on hand to IMMEDIATELY wipe off the raised areas within a few seconds.

Means you go just a couple letters or swirls at a time. And you stress out every time hoping the excess actually wipes off. Then you wait for those to dry before doing the next round.

But damn it looks good. Gonna take hours, but worth it.

And at least I can do it indoors, out of the desert summer heat.
