Queue It Up
Tomorrow I leave for Ghana. Well, Detroit airport, then JFK, then Ghana. Anyways, I've put together a queue on my main tumblr for all of you, since I'll be there for 3 weeks. BUT YOU SHOULD REALLY ->>> Check out this super awesome tumblr put together for my group: http://ghanasummer.tumblr.com/ It's all 10 of us, all the time. Our thoughts, our frustrations, and our creative acts (mine will be a watercolor a day) I've tagged my posts so you can conveniently find them by searching "Rachel"
"Pack what you think you'll need and then pack half of that." Anyone else finding this hard? -Rachel
growth is who you are, life is who you are
Packing begins tonight, the most daunting, most anxiety driven thing in my way of getting to Ghana. It will feel beyond rewarding when I finally zip up my suitcase. This trip is bigger than I know and I feel incredibly blessed to be part of it. My experiences in Ghana will shape me as a person and as an artist. I cannot wait to experience the community there and also share the adventures to come with each other.
I'm ready to step into this journey and fight to embrace it wholly, not letting fear inhibit any part of it. I'm eager to begin work with the kids at Aba House. The artistic ability of children is often underestimated and I'm excited to approach our projects and friendships with them intentionally, as artists, not just as tourists visiting with crafts.
I want each of my moments to be intentional. I want everything to matter when I look back at it. I want to serve people out of love and grace, and I want to use my art in the process. I don't know what that will look like in my future. Maybe it will be working with a foundation that teaches an art form to a community which in turn helps them financially. Or maybe it will be a teaching position or a missions field.
One thing I'm sure of is that in three days I'll be right where I'm supposed to be. I'm excited to see what direction this trip points me to in the future, the ways I'll be challenged and the ways that I'll grow.
