“I am part of the Northern Michigan Constructors. During my junior year I was President of the organization. As President, I was the primary point of contact for the student volunteer organization that consistently works with Bay Cliff Health Camp, and various other groups to engage the community. During the academic year, we racked up hundreds of volunteer hours building lofts for Halverson hall, making day trips to Bay Cliff, rebuilt the Marquette Community Garden fence, replaced some of the UP 200 guard fence, and many more projects. Working in the community made myself feel good giving back to a community that has done so much for Northern and myself. All of the volunteer time was absolutely worth helping other in the community. Later that same year, the Northern Michigan Constructors won the Community service award out of all of the other organizations on campus. It was an honor to be awarded such a high honor for what we thought was just doing simple task.”
