Halwen for all the *8 please!
aaaaaaa thank you so much for the ask, stormy!
putting these under a read more since there’s quite a few :)
ask me about my ocs
8. What do they believe will happen to them after they die? Does this belief scare them?
this is a particularly interesting question for this oc because she is a peredhel born before the choice is granted and so (by my worldbuilding) it’s an interesting situation where for much of her youth, no one knows. it is not immediately clear if she is going to age and die as a human, only slowly or if she will live on as an elf. halwen personally believed that if she were to die she would be mortal and leave the world. this did not scare her too much because, in my worldbuilding, the haladin had a tradition of worshipping the dead and so she believed she would be reunited with her mother when she died.
18. What languages can they speak? Where did they learn these languages?
halwen’s position meant she had to be multilingual! even though the haladin were much more isolated that the other edain, it was still necessary as chieftain. she speaks the haladin language, the dialects of taliska that the other edain speak, sindarin, and quenya. as she lives among the haladin and was raised with them, that is her primary language. she speaks taliska about as fluently. her sindarin is much less perfect, but she understands again out of need to be able to communicate with other men as well as the doriathrim on occasion. lastly, quenya. she learned to speak quenya from her father as a child, but due to her isolation from the noldor, really only ever spoke it with caranthir and her twin brother halion. this means that it is patchy in places and it’s a very particular dialect.
28. Are they aware of their strengths?
i would say so! she has a wealth of insecurities, but she know what she’s good at. she knows she is capable at what she does.
38. What do others admire most about their personality?
other people admire about halwen that she always seems steady, even in situations of great stress. this makes her a leader people feel comfortable following in times of great trial, because it does not appear to others that things ever get to her, even when they do.
48. Do they have any tattoos? What are the stories behind those tattoos?
she does! i headcanon that the haladin had a culture of tattooing and she followed in that tradition. her tattoos are ceremonial and indicate her role, first as the daughter of the chieftain of the haladin, and later as chieftain herself.
58. What is their most noticeable physical attribute?
probably her hair. she has black curly hair that she wears long and it’s easily recognizable among the haladin, whom i headcanon were generally blond or brown haired.
68. How did their environment growing up affect their personality?
halwen grew up always knowing she was the heir apparent to haleth’s role and this meant that she always felt the need to present a public face of being stable and strong and a good leader. this means that when halwen experiences emotional distress of any kind, she is very difficult to read and generally holds that in.
78. Who do they consider to be their best friend?
her twin brother, halion. the fact that she had all this pressure and expectation on her as a child was at times very isolating, not to mention that she was not entirely human. as a result, for most of her life, halion was closest to her because he could understand and be trusted.
88. Do they have an accent?
yes! the fact that sindarin is not native to her means that she speaks it with a mannish accent. also, there is the amusing fact that because halwen learned quenya from her father and never really spoke it with anyone else, she has an overbearing fëanárion accent in quenya. it is therindë, thank you very much.
