What's you're thoughts on university? Cause I honestly think it's shite!💩 Love your blog btw!!!
Well honestly I think it all depends. And hey, we’re both on a Media course. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t think its at all necessary for a Media job, unless you want to be like a make-up artist or a choreographer or something.
While I was researching roles in the film industry, most of the big roles, like Director and Camera Operator, none of those have any formal qualification requirements.
And hey, lets be honest, what’s the point in going to university when you can just jump in to the industry straight away, especially after a college course like ours? Most people start at the bottom and work their way up.
Lets put it into context. Say you did decide to go to university. That’s between 2 and 4 years getting more qualifications. Someone from the same college course as you decided to go and get a job as a runner. And hey, they might be making tea all day, but they’re building contacts, getting something to put on their CV, earning money, and are already working in the industry.
Here’s what I’m gonna say: only go to university if the role that you want actually needs a university degree as a requirement when applying for said role.
If the role you want to do doesn’t require a degree, don’t waste years in university, getting into debt, having no money, and getting qualifications that you’ll likely not need later in the day.
If, as I mentioned, you want to be a choreographer for example, you’ll need to become a professional dancer first, so you would need further education for that.
I have absolutely no intentions of going to university. I want to be a Camera Operator. And what do I need for that? I need camera knowledge, patience, an eye for detail, and to work my way up to it. I don’t need to go to university. I can start as a runner and go from there if I want to.
So, if the job you want doesn’t require a university degree, don’t bloody go to university!!!
