Just spent 10 days touring Newfoundland with these guys - the Ilumini branch of the Hamilton Children's Choir @hcclisten - and could not ask for a better group of people to be a part of. Their performances as a featured choir at @podiumconference and @grosmornemusic were at the highest level and continue to redefine what a "children's choir" is capable of. Whenever they perform they open hearts and minds and continue a tradition of excellence and professionalism beyond that of many adult ensembles. They work hard, and their connection with the group, the music and with our amazing director Zimfira Poloz (who is worthy of a whole other post) shines through in their engaging performances. Mostly, though, they are all around great human beings who care deeply about one another, who are easy to get along with, and who are wickedly funny. (The parody medley that they put together for the staff was excellent and hysterical and probably the highlight of my tour.) I'm still not entirely sure how a percussionist ended up on the staff of a children's choir but I'm glad I did and it has become one of the great joys of my (musical) life. Thanks to all you guys - and our fantastic and tireless chaperones and HCC staff - for an amazing 10 days.
