Pickle Shots
We usually have sandwiches on the second day of our Hamp Hut adventures for two reasons: the girls like sandwiches, and sandwiches mean pickles. One year the girls in Troop 931 decided to drink the pickle juice as shots after returning from our midnight hike, and it’s been a tradition ever since. Now even Troop 2393’s joined in!
The girls do this over and over until the juice is all gone, sometimes taking up to 6 shots of pickle juice!
Check out Kayla in this video!
So much fun!!!
Counting Down to Midnight...
This has been a tradition for us for years! We spend December 30 and 31 at Hamp Hut (Garden of the Gods), and at about 11:45pm on New Year’s Eve we take a short hike that has a great view of the fireworks launched off Pikes Peak at Midnight. We’ve been extremely lucky, always having clear (but cold) weather for our midnight hikes. This year, like last, we didn’t need flashlights: the moon was almost full so we were able to hike by the moonlight!
Count down with us…
We know we have the best view in Colorado Springs, but what we didn’t know until later was we were in the only area that could actually see the fireworks: it was too foggy in the rest of the Springs to see them. Pictures just don’t do them justice!
Hamp Hut Cooking
Easy meals this time!!! We needed quick meals so we could cram in as much movie watching as possible. First night: Potato Soup (a Hamp Hut Tradition).
We also made chocolate frogs
T-shirts are done, movies are watched, now it's time to hike to see the fireworks!
Prepping for Hamp Hut
It takes a lot of planning to put together a Hamp Hut NYE Weekend, but luckily this year was easier than most: Since we're having a Harry Potter Movie Marathon few activities are involved, just decorating, food, and of course, the movies.
Emily and I arrived three hours before everyone else did so we could set up. Check out some of the decorations!
