It’s all fair in love and war, then, when he wheels his chair to the motem, waiting just for her building moans before... Bam! The WiFi dies. Hard buffer. Oops. “Y’know, Kaito-san, that stuff you’re watching really eats up your data.”

Picking out Halloween costumes for each other, in theory, was a great idea. But... this store was pretty rough, to put it lightly. The ideas they’d come up with were great! She’d love to be a devil to his angel, a circus master to his pet, the pepper to his salt. 

And maybe she does look great as Catwoman. Yufi loves cats! There’s nothing wrong with the idea, technically. But... this suit is due to get so warm. Peeling out of it would be a nightmare. And... if she’s addressing why he chose such a thing for her, she’s going to just call it outright. It’s nothing about her love of kitties-- then he would have just picked a cat, wouldn’t he?

Yufi sticks her head out the dressing room, peeks her head around the corner. Kaito’s door is still closed. She groans. “ Kaito, I’m sure you make a great Batman. You’re like the perfect size for one anyway, you don’t even need the fake muscle padding. Lemme get a look. ”

“There’s no need to seem so angered. Is it not almost an obligation to have to stare at you with... such an attire?” An excuse he came up with at the last second. He didn’t expect the other to even notice his intense staring... or even speak back at him, because of it.

“And, no, I’m on break. I only came here to have a good time is all.” Another lie, he managed to smile a bit. He himself didn’t know what lead him to end up there... again. It did bother him, but there was no need to share something like that with others. 

“Aren’t you supposed to be aiding your little ‘pal’ out?”

Yagami looked at Kaito, seeing the utter devotion in his eyes. It made his face flush lightly, already averting his gaze to look at Kaito’s shirt instead. He was used to Kaito saying things like this, but this moment felt different somehow.

❝ Yeah, always. ❞ He sounded lightheaded, but he guessed it was because he certainly was feeling that way. Kaito was always someone important to him, even if they did start out as enemies before. He was always there for him, listened to what he had to say and always comforted him no matter what.

The fluttering feeling in his belly wasn’t something you were supposed to feel for friends, it was something reserved for a different kind of relationship. A kind of relationship Yagami yearned for more and more with Kaito with every passing day they knew each other.

It’s easy enough, quite frankly– he’s right there, and Yufi’s actually impressed that nothing’s happened yet. Maybe she’s read the scene, his vibes, his reactions all wrong… but she could’ve sworn there’d been a connection between the two of them. And being so cozy together, sharing Tak’s loveseat as they wait for him to return from whatever gig so they can grab dinner together… well, the moment seemed right. She’d started out merely sitting next to him, content to watch Kaito read… but then the book had seemed rather interesting, something she’d honestly ought to get into given her father’s profession, and so easily enough she’d found herself in Kaito’s lap, reading the pages along with him.

But to make space for both her and the book, it’d taken some creative maneuvering, perched partway between his legs, sitting perpendicular so her feet comfortably rested on the cushion, her head tucked between his head and shoulder, in region easy enough to nuzzle should she see fit. And while she is entirely brave enough, she wants to see him show that interest rather than drag it out of him. Kaito isn’t just any person, not someone with a one-time use… she wants to see him consent, to admit that there’s something worth pursuing, and then to go on the prowl. That’s what really excites her.

And maybe it’s the way her gaze shifts from reading the pages to watching his features, but she’s enraptured, intrigued by how the corner of his lip twitches when he’s amused or considered himself clever, how his brow furrows when he seems confused about a subject or topic. He’s a habit of clearing his throat before he asks her to chime in, and she’s usually more than happy to do so.

Except this time, it’s not until he nudges her that she recognizes he’s been clearing his throat for a while now. Oh!

And maybe it’s the flush on her cheeks, or just the look of endearment and wanting she has in her eyes as she watches him so intently, but his attention for a moment can be distracted away from book and replaced so easily by her intense open admiration for him.

And maybe, just maybe, he would use that to his advantage…

IF there wasn’t the jangling of keys to indicate that their snuggle time was now over.

There’s the sound of jangling keys. The smell of fresh-brewed coffee wafts in the office’s warm glow, and Yagami slithers inside, little surprised to be met with the garish print of Kaito’s shirt. He sighs. Well... Look at Romeo, finally back from his spectacular date! What’s with the look, then? The keys clatter as they’re thrown onto the table, and looking more tired than ever he’s been, Ta-bo beelines for hot caffeine. Ugh. “This night couldn’t end sooner.”
