Food Adventure #69: Hanbat Korean Restaurant
I am not sure why this Hanbat Korean Restaurant is so quiet. Perhaps in the wrong location but the food here is quite tasty and has never failed every time I revisited.
Most good Korean restaurants start you off with complimentary small cold dishes. Hanbat has pretty interesting ones; I believe one is pickled onions and the other we think is marinated dry squid.
I always love a light clear soup with rice so I ordered the Ox Knee Soup. Also because I was curious to see what Ox knee was - turned out to just be Beef tendons. But nevertheless, it solved my soup craving. Light and smooth, this soup was awesome with rice.
We complimented the rice with Beef Bulgogi Hot Pot; a mix of vegetable and Beef Bulgogi.
One of the older waiters, the chef perhaps, saw us enjoying our cold dishes so she gave us more as well as adding pickled radish and a small dish of kim chi. Her english was quite limited but she communicated with her hands and the tried to ask for feedback before giving us the extra cold dishes which we thought was a rather sweet gesture.
Located in the more quieter areas of Box Hill, Hanbat is a great option if you are looking for a quiet meal.
