More bug embroidery! I tried out some larger, more detailed specimens this time: a house centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata) and a giant Malaysian leaf insect (Pulchriphyllium giganteum). 𓆤𓆨𓆧𓆨
I ran out of greens a couple times on the leaf insect, so I had to gradually incorporate different shades. I'm glad I did though, since it gave more dimension to the segments. <|:] 𖦹 *٭ 𓆣 𖢥 𓆣٭ * 𖦹
‘I’d rather ask my cat than ChatGPT’ cross stitch pattern 😾💖🖕
Fuck AI! I’m proud to say I’ve never used ChatGPT and simply never will. I’d trust a silly fluffy kitty for life advice over a dumb ai robot any day of the week. :3
AI slop ‘art’ is trash and has no place in the textiles/fiber arts community, or any creative space. We only support and uplift human artists here. <3
Alright malevolent goobers… I put it to a poll and the people said that they wanted to see my weird little dollmaker craft so here ya go. I started with a pattern but modified the proportions a bit to give a more of an inhuman lanky form
I’ve seen a few interpretations of the dollmakers and this one is heavily inspired by @samglyph‘s artwork of the dollmaker measuring Arthur for his new body. Unnecessary amounts of detail and more photos under the cut.
My goal for this project was to use as much natural fibre, and materials I already had in the studio as possible. Aside from the plastic buttons attaching the hips and shoulders and a couple of the accessories, I more or less managed to stick to natural materials. The body is a cotton muslin, the stuffing is raw wool, the hair is natural wool yarn from a thrift shop years ago, even paint on the face and limbs is a from a small batch locally made palette sourced from natural pigment ( the paint maker uses clove oil as part of her recipe and it smells amaaaaazing)
All of their clothing is sourced from natural fibre scraps from my “giant dresser full of scraps I’ll definitely use someday”. The discerning eye might recognize some of the fabric from projects I’ve posted previously.
The jointed construction makes them a little bit poseable, and I put a bit of wire in the neck area so they can be positioned better.
Drafting doll clothing was actually really fun and I got to bust out a lot of handsewing skills for this project. 10/10 would dollmake again.
I think I want to share some more of my sewing On Here (largely because I hate instagram for a number of reasons).
And also because this sewing project is quite silly and fandom tumblr will appreciate it more.
I wondered, one day, what the Thirteenth Doctor would wear if she had gotten stranded in the past with Yaz. And because I am me, I decided to make it.
Edwardian bicycle trousers in teal wool (from Woolsome in Poland, because they had the right color!). Buttons from Pacific Trimming in New York. Pattern from Black Snail Patterns. Entirely hand-sewn by me. Assistance by cat.
Baby Blue the Lambie! This cuddly girl is available now on my kofi page. She's crocheted with fluffy nylon yarn and features handsewn felt details, plus the loveliest lace collar! Baby Blue is also lightly weighted with glass microbeads in her belly.
