I followed the instruction given by the two workers at the machinery shop and found the Outboard Motor Repair Workshop. The workshop is located near to the Mersing River and it is quite near to the town.
The foreman was quite busy when I reached there, his workshop is full of outboard waiting to be repaired. He told me to wait as he was in the middle of fixing something onto a lower unit.
While waiting I found out that if I wanted to upgrade to a better and bigger capacity outboard, I should come to Malaysia. According to him the price of the Yamaha and Mercury outboard, both 5hp respectively are sold at Malaysia Ringgit $4,700. Which is Singapore Dollars $1,740 based on the exchange rate of 2.70. It will cost lesser today as current exchange rate is S$1 to M$3, I can save S$174!
When the foreman finally free he went on to inspect my Hangkai 3.5hp Outboard Motor. It seems that he is not used to repair something this small capacity, this can be told from those huge outboard motors that are in the workshop. He was quite confused on how the Hangkai spins the propeller.
After some checking and inspecting, he remove the lower unit gearbox cover. Nothing wrong was spotted and he assumed that the drive shaft is either loosen or broken. The foreman suggested to leave the Hangkai Outboard Motor at his workshop and he will dismantle the whole unit to have a thorough check. I was left with no other option and agreed to his proposal.
I was regretted as I made that decision that day. The foreman didn't call or text me although he promised. I assumed that he was busy and waited for one week and when I called him the reply is shocking! He haven't got the time to do anything on my Hangkai.
The whole drama dragged for three weeks and I figured that enough is enough, I drove up to Mersing to collect back my Hangkai Outboard Motor, I made another fishing trip at the same time which will featured in the future video.
When I returned home I decided to use what ever knowledge I have and with some help from YouTube videos, I dismantle the Hangkai Outboard Motor. Which I eventually found out what was faulty, the drive shaft was jammed on the Water Impeller Housing.
The final installation of the Outboard Motor Maintenance Series, Internal care & Inspection.
