Hannah and Garrett - Protection
Let’s see the aftermath, shall we?
“Hannah? Oh my God, Hannah!”
Everything had been a daze, but Hannah remembered every single thing that had happened since Delaney shot Garrett - him being tackled to the ground and arrested, taken away in a police car, paramedics arriving soon after to attend to Garrett, working on him on the cold ground of New York City, paramedics lifting his unconscious body onto a stretcher as he was put into the ambulance…
“Miss. Wells, we’re going to take Mr. Graham to the hospital now, would you like to come with us?”
“Is he… He’s going to be okay, isn’t he?”
“He’s going to be fine. From what we can see the bullet is a through and through, but he may need surgery to close up the wound.”
Hannah nodded in understanding, feeling Allie’s hand on her shoulder, and she turned to her… “How did…”
“Social media, babe. Go. We’ll follow.”
She nodded and climbed into the back of the ambulance, taking a seat next to Garrett, her hand entwining with his…
Hannah sat in the ambulance, eyes closed, the sirens wailing overhead as Garrett was transported to the hospital. Feeling his fingers move, she opened her eyes, smiling tearfully as his eyes opened and met hers… “Hey, hi.”
He smiled at her warmly… “Hi.”
She leaned forwards and stroked her fingers through his hair… “We’re almost at the hospital. You’re gonna be just fine.”
He nodded… “Are you okay?”
She nodded… “Bastard ruined my dress. Tempted to send him the dry cleaning bill.”
Garrett chuckled, groaning as he coughed, blood dripping down his chin as he moved his hand away from his mouth…
“Garrett… That’s… That’s not normal.”
“Step on it! And let the hospital know they’re going to need to prep for surgery!”
“Is he going to be okay? Tell me the truth!”
“There may be some shrapnel lodged in the wound. I’m afraid we won’t know anymore until we get to the hospital and he’s taken into theatre. Mr. Graham, lay as still as you can for me, okay?”
Five minutes later, everything became a blur for Hannah as they arrived at the hospital - Garrett was wheeled out of the ambulance and into the hospital and she followed like a lost sheep, a nurse stopping her by placing her hands on her shoulders…
“My fiancé… he’s… Is he going to be okay?”
“He’s been taken into surgery. As soon as we know more we’ll let you know. Take a seat and take a breath. He’s in the best possible hands.”
She nodded, watching as the nurse disappeared through the same double doors as Garrett had been, tears filling her eyes as the events of the night caught up with her, and she dropped to the floor, eyes catching sight of Garrett’s blood staining her hands and dress making her cry even harder…
Hannah let her body fall against Allie’s as she heard her voice and felt her behind her, arms wrapping around her tightly as she held her as she cried, Dean appearing in front of her, squeezing her hand…
“He’s gonna be okay, Wellsy. He’s strong, and he’s got so much to live for.”
She nodded… “He woke up in the ambulance. Was talking to me as if nothing had happened and then he coughed and all of a sudden there was blood. He… he’s got to have emergency surgery.”
Dean squeezed her hand again… “Don’t think like that. He loves you, Wellsy, loves the life you’re building. He’ll fight to come back to you, trust me. Come on, let’s sit down properly, yeah?”
Hannah let Dean help her to her feet, both of them and Allie walking over to some chairs in the corner of the waiting area…
“Do you want to try and close your eyes, babe? You’ve been through hell. You must be exhausted.”
“I… I’ll just see what happened.”
“I know but just try, yeah? For me?”
“Dean and I will wake you as soon as the doctor comes. Your body’s in shock, Han, you need to look after yourself too.”
“Al’s right, Wellsy. We’re not going anywhere. Just try closing your eyes.”
Hannah nodded and laid her head in Allie’s lap, her fingers stroking through her hair, helping to clear the images of the night from her mind…
So… Garrett’s in surgery… Oh shit.
